Members of the dog family, Coyotes are experts at hunting and foraging. While other animal populations have declined with human encroachment, coyote populations, due to their adaptability, have increased and can be found almost everywhere across North America. Coyotes have keen vision and a strong sense of smell and will eat almost anything. Coyotes are native only to North America and are popular in Native American mythology for their cunning.
To help raise understanding of wildlife in the park, Yosemite Conservancy helps fund critical wildlife research conducted by Yosemite National Park Service. These projects, in turn, inform strategies and conservation plans to help ensure the future of these wonderful animals.
