Marmota flaviventris

Yellow-bellied Marmots are large burrowing rodents with small ears and short muzzles that live in alpine meadows and near the forest edge of the western United States and southwestern Canada. They may climb trees but are most often seen on the ground near rocks or their burrows, living in colonies of 10-20 individuals. They can be identified by their "whistle" or chirp sound they make when they are alarmed. They feed on grasses and leaves, and hibernate from late fall until spring.
