This lovely basket is made by the Western Mono people of central California. Made during the 1930's this basket was used briefly as a small cooking basket, there are several missing stitches and the pattern is a bit faded. Using sedge root and bracken fern root sewed on a grass bundle, the pattern is a diamond "snake" design interrupted by vertical zig-zags. Measures 10 3/4 inches wide and 4 inches tall.
