They may climb trees but are most often seen on the ground near rocks or their burrows, living in colonies of 10-20 individuals. They can be identified by their \"whistle\" or chirp sound they make when they are alarmed. They feed on grasses and leaves, and hibernate from late fall until spring.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTo help raise understanding of wildlife in the park, Yosemite Conservancy helps fund critical wildlife research conducted by Yosemite National Park Service.
