The Yosemite wilderness was added to the National Wilderness Preservation System by Congressional designation in 1984. This area is a priceless natural treasure offering incredible geological landscapes, naturally functioning ecosystems, and a multitudeof hiking trails. Please help us preserve it by leaving trace. Camp "care"-fully, only in legal existing sites. Protect water quality. Remember both you and the animals must eat proper foods to stay healthy, so please use appropriate food storage in all areas of Yosemite wilderness.

Stay at least 100 feet (50 steps) away from all water sources.

Busy all human waste in a shallow hole at least 100 feet (50 steps) from all winter sources.

Don't be bear carless! Use a bear-resistant food canister, use bear poles, storage boxes or cables (when available), or hang your food properly.
